UK Offshore Wind Supply Chain Spotlight

With the offshore industry looking to scale by nearly a factor of 4 by 2030, it's imperative to ensure reskilling from within existing professions such as Oil and Gas. However, simultaneously there is an increasing need to bring in new entrants that can offer cutting-edge capabilities, for example, AI (Artificial Intelligence) within search and rescue.

So, in the middle of a cold December, over 400 delegates attended the Queen Elizabeth conference centre to discuss the supply chain for offshore wind growth. The 'UK Offshore Wind Supply Chain Spotlight' event provided the perfect exhibition space for many SMEs to demonstrate progress and encourage dialogue and collaboration.

In 2021, LiveLink Aerospace secured OWGP (Offshore Wind Growth Partnership) funding to develop its air surveillance system. The initiative was to support the industry's growth by delivering insights into drone usage and the capability to detect and, in future, support drone operations. LiveLink Aerospace achieved this through its low-cost, multi-sensor network that mounts directly onto the wind turbine.

Showing the diversification of the technology developed by LiveLink Aerospace, these same super sensors can also act as eyes and ears for bird detection, building upon the ORJIP (Offshore Renewables Joint Industry Programme) study in a practical, more cost-effective manner.

Many organisations attending the 'UK Offshore Wind Supply Chain Spotlight' event were interested to hear more about our offshore turbine solutions, including some of the presenters looking to collaborate on future tenders. Discussions varied from technologies that can detect the change in the GPS of a product to others that may enable testing on the next series of floating wind turbines.

LiveLink Aerospace has also won a DASA (Defence and Security Accelerator) project on Air Defence. It was interesting to see how this factor was hardly referenced by all the speakers and exhibitors. Therefore, knowing LiveLink Aerospace occupy a unique spot in the Offshore Wind Industry and can support the requirements of multiple stakeholders is a big win.
